GAINESVILLE, Texas — Gainesville ISD has fully implemented its SMART Tag system across all campuses, giving parents real-time visibility into their children's bus transportation.
The electronic tracking system, which began rollout in the spring, uses RFID-equipped cards that students scan when boarding and exiting buses. Parents can download the SMART Tag Parent App on Android or iOS devices to receive alerts and monitor their child's ridership history.
The app allows parents to track bus-riding activity, receive mobile alerts when their child boards or exits, view ridership history for the entire school year, and link multiple students to one account.
"The Smart Parent Web Portal is designed to enhance communication between the transportation department and the parents of student riders," according to district information.
To get started, the primary parent listed in district records must complete registration and confirm their student. Co-parents can then request access through the app, with approval from either the primary parent or the school district.
SMART Tag cards are mandatory for all bus riders. Students keep their cards from year to year, and replacement cards cost $5. Students must board and exit only at their designated stops.
