Valley View ISD
English 3 students bring stories to life for elementary classrooms. Through their Red River Promise Service Project, Valley View's English 3 students wrote and illustrated eight original books designed for specific grade levels and subjects. Each book was placed in classrooms led by Mrs. Howard, Mrs. Epperson, Mrs. Munoz, and Mrs. Brinkley — two books each — and the high schoolers visited to read their stories aloud to younger students.
The project mixed creativity with collaboration, planning and presentation skills. "I don't like speaking in front of people, but I did it for the kids," student Paloma Martinez told the district. "The whole process was fun — creating and working together."
Fellow student Savanah Green said: "This project taught me to come out of my comfort zone… creating stories, illustrating, presenting. However, it warms my soul to see the kids smile."
Gainesville ISD
