Gainesville ISD expects to save roughly $422,000 across its 2025 bond construction projects, with Phase I work at elementary and intermediate campuses set to begin this May.

GAINESVILLE, Texas — Gainesville Independent School District is projecting approximately $422,000 in savings on its 2025 bond construction projects, according to an update presented to the school board. Phase I projects at the district's elementary and intermediate schools are expected to come in about $347,000 under budget, while Phase II work at the junior high and senior high campuses shows projected savings of roughly $75,000. The bond package includes a Career and Technical Education wing at Gainesville High School, a cafeteria expansion at the junior high, an enclosed semi-outdoor hallway, additional classrooms at elementary schools, and a secured entryway with library expansion at the junior high. Superintendent DesMortes Stewart said the district is committed to fiscal responsibility throughout the construction process. "We're wanting to make sure that we are good stewards of taxpayer dollars," Stewart said. Phase I construction at elementary and intermediate campuses is scheduled to begin in May, timed to coincide with summer break to minimize disruptions for students and staff. Phase II projects at the junior high and high school are slated to start around October. The district prioritized the secured entryway at the junior high, ensuring it would be completed regardless of the bond outcome. The entryway will allow visitor screening before anyone enters the building. A Bond Oversight Committee made up of community members who were involved throughout the bond planning process will determine how to allocate any remaining surplus funds toward projects not yet addressed by the bond. The 2025 bond was approved by Gainesville ISD voters and covers campus improvements aimed at modernizing facilities, improving student safety, and expanding capacity for career and technical programs.
