GAINESVILLE, Texas — Gainesville ISD has opened its Gifted and Talented (GT) referral window for the 2025-2026 school year, providing families and educators the opportunity to nominate students who demonstrate exceptional abilities and potential.
The referral period, which runs through November 1, 2025, allows parents, teachers, and other qualified individuals to identify students who may benefit from the specialized instruction and enrichment opportunities the GT program provides. Early identification helps ensure students receive appropriate academic challenges suited to their abilities.
Gainesville ISD's Gifted and Talented program serves students who demonstrate superior intellectual abilities, creativity, or talent in specific academic areas. The program offers differentiated instruction designed to meet the unique learning needs of high-ability students, providing them with opportunities to explore topics in greater depth and develop critical thinking skills.
Parents who believe their child may be a strong candidate for the GT program are encouraged to complete a referral form before the November 1 deadline. Teachers and administrators who observe students demonstrating exceptional abilities in their classrooms can also submit referrals for consideration.
Following the referral period, the district will conduct assessments to determine student eligibility for GT services. Multiple criteria are used in the evaluation process, including aptitude tests, achievement measures, and performance observations, ensuring a comprehensive review of each student's abilities.
Once identified for GT services, students receive specialized instruction integrated into their regular classroom experience, along with opportunities for advanced coursework and enrichment activities. The program aims to foster intellectual growth while maintaining social and emotional development appropriate to each student's age.
Families with questions about the GT referral process, eligibility criteria, or program services can contact their child's campus counselor or the district's GT coordinator. Additional information is available on the Gainesville ISD website under the academics section.
The district's commitment to identifying and serving gifted students reflects its broader mission to provide appropriate educational opportunities for all learners, regardless of their individual needs or abilities.
