GAINESVILLE, Texas — Cooke County school districts have scheduled fall board meetings, parent participation opportunities and campus activities, while Gainesville ISD expects Edison Elementary to return to regular operations Sept. 14.
Upcoming board meetings
Muenster ISD trustees will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9. The agenda includes a student recognition item, public comment, reports from district administrators, a review of the district’s 2025-26 FIRST financial rating and discussion of possible facilities improvements for 2026-27.
Trustees are also scheduled to consider a defeasance payment on the district’s 2017B bond, emergency operating procedures, a book list for elementary and secondary libraries, and agreements involving the Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program and transportation for students attending the Texas School for the Deaf in Denton. The agenda also includes a possible calendar change connected to the high school UIL district meet.
Valley View ISD trustees will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10. The agenda includes a public forum, financial reports, attendance and budget updates, a three-year school safety audit and an update to the stipend list for high school academic UIL coaches.
Gainesville family participation
Gainesville ISD is seeking parents for its Parent Advisory Committee. Meetings are scheduled for Oct. 6, Jan. 5 and April 6 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the district administration office, 900 N. Grand Ave. Spanish-speaking parent meetings are scheduled for Oct. 13, Jan. 12 and April 13.
The district is also recruiting parents and community members for its School Health Advisory Council. Meetings are scheduled for Sept. 22, Nov. 17, Feb. 16 and April 27 from 5 to 6 p.m. at the administration office. Parents who are not district employees must make up a majority of the council.
Campus and election updates
Gainesville ISD said remediation of 37 mold-affected classrooms at Edison Elementary is complete. Flooring, rebuilding and deep cleaning were scheduled to finish before the district’s anticipated return to regular operations Monday, Sept. 14. The district is working with the Texas Education Agency to determine whether the missed school day qualifies for a waiver.
Muenster families can order senior recognition ads for the 2026-27 yearbook through March 12, 2027. Muenster Elementary will host Grandparents Week Sept. 14-18, with morning visits organized by grade levels. One Act Play fundraisers featuring face painting and spirit tattoos are scheduled at Hornet Stadium Sept. 10, 18 and 25.
A Slidell ISD notice also says the district canceled its Nov. 3 school board election after candidates were certified as unopposed. Families should check each district’s official notice for meeting details, sign-up links and updates before attending.
