CALLISBURG, Texas — The Callisburg Wildcats football team finished the 2025 season with a 4-5 overall record and 2-3 district mark, ending their playoff hopes in UIL Class 3A District 7. The Wildcats found themselves on the playoff bubble heading into the final week of the regular season but were unable to secure one of the four playoff spots from the competitive district. Gunter Tigers (8-1, 5-0) and Leonard Tigers (6-3, 4-1) claimed the top two district positions and earned playoff berths. District 7-3A proved challenging throughout the season, with multiple teams competing for the final playoff positions. The district's competitive balance meant that every game carried playoff implications, and the Wildcats' 2-3 district record ultimately left them outside the postseason picture. Callisburg's 4-5 overall record included victories in non-district play, showing the team's ability to compete against quality opponents. However, the district schedule presented tough matchups week after week, testing the Wildcats against some of North Texas' top 3A programs. The UIL's playoff system awards playoff berths to the top four teams in each district for Class 3A football. With Gunter and Leonard securing the top two spots, Callisburg needed to finish among the next two teams but fell short in the final standings. Gunter Tigers dominated District 7 with their 5-0 record and 8-1 overall mark, establishing themselves as one of the region's elite programs. The Tigers have a history of deep playoff runs and entered the postseason as strong contenders for the state championship. Leonard Tigers also earned a playoff spot with their 4-1 district record despite a 6-3 overall mark. The Tigers' strong district performance secured their postseason berth even with three non-district losses. Other teams in District 7-3A included Bells Panthers (4-6, 3-3) and Blue Ridge Tigers (4-4, 3-2), both of which also competed for the final playoff spots. The district's competitive nature meant that multiple teams finished with similar records, with playoff positions determined by head-to-head results and tiebreaker procedures. Callisburg ISD and the Wildcats football program will now shift focus to the offseason, including strength and conditioning programs, spring practice and preparation for the 2026 season. The coaching staff will evaluate the season's performance and work with returning players to build on this year's experience. For senior players, the season's conclusion marks the end of their high school football careers. These athletes contributed to the program and represented Callisburg ISD with dedication throughout their time in the program. The Wildcats' season included memorable moments and competitive games even without a playoff berth. Building a successful football program requires consistency over multiple seasons, and the experience gained in 2025 provides a foundation for future success.
