The Texas Master Naturalist Elm Fork Chapter is accepting applications April 6 through April 24 for its next training class serving Denton, Cooke, and Wise counties.

GAINESVILLE, Texas — Nature enthusiasts in Cooke County have until April 24 to apply for the next Texas Master Naturalist training class through the Elm Fork Chapter, which serves Denton, Cooke, and Wise counties. Applications open April 6 for the training program running August 11 through October 27. The chapter welcomes both experienced naturalists and beginners interested in learning from conservation experts. The Texas Master Naturalist program develops volunteers who provide "education, outreach, and service dedicated to the beneficial management of natural resources and natural areas," according to the state program. Graduates join a network of trained volunteers working on more than 40 conservation, education, and stewardship projects across North Texas. Volunteer projects span a range of activities from wildlife monitoring and habitat restoration to leading nature education programs at local parks and schools. Master Naturalists contribute thousands of volunteer hours annually across the state. The Elm Fork Chapter is one of the most active in Texas and covers a three-county area that includes significant natural features such as the Elm Fork of the Trinity River, the Cross Timbers ecoregion, and Lake Ray Roberts. The program is jointly sponsored by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and Texas Parks and Wildlife. After completing the initial training, participants commit to ongoing volunteer service and continuing education hours to maintain their certification.
