SHERMAN, Texas — Sherman has emerged as a major advanced manufacturing center in North Texas, anchoring more than $30 billion in active and planned industrial investments across semiconductor fabrication, silicon wafer manufacturing, and artificial intelligence optical components.
Led by major capital projects from Coherent Corp., GlobalWafers America, Texas Instruments, and supporting utility suppliers, Grayson County has established a critical role in the U.S. technology supply chain.
Coherent Optical Component Expansion
Coherent Corp. is executing a $650 million expansion of its Sherman manufacturing campus, supported by $50 million in federal CHIPS and Science Act funding.
The facility manufactures advanced optical components and laser devices serving AI data center backbones, high-speed optical networking, and next-generation telecommunications infrastructure.
GlobalWafers and Texas Instruments Fabrications
- GlobalWafers America: Constructing a multi-billion dollar 300mm silicon wafer manufacturing facility in Sherman, bringing advanced semiconductor substrate production back to the United States.
- Texas Instruments: Building multi-billion dollar semiconductor fabrication plants (fabs) designed to produce analog and embedded processing chips for automotive, industrial, and consumer electronics markets.
Power and Infrastructure Grid Support
To power the growing industrial corridor along US 75 and US 82, Rayburn Country Electric Cooperative broke ground on Rayburn Energy Station 2, a $685 million natural gas power generation plant in Sherman designed to strengthen ERCOT grid reliability.
Additionally, industrial support facilities such as the Lawrence Equipment corn mill facility demonstrate expanding secondary manufacturing across Grayson County.
