NTMC invests $1.25M in cardiac CT imaging technology

GAINESVILLE, Texas — North Texas Medical Center has invested $1.25 million in a new Cardiac Computed Tomography imaging system, giving Cooke County patients access to advanced heart diagnostics without leaving the community. The technology provides two key diagnostic tools. Coronary Artery Calcium Scans detect and measure calcified plaque in coronary arteries, a leading indicator of cardiovascular disease risk. Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography delivers detailed cross-sectional images of heart vessels, producing comprehensive 3D visualizations that allow clinicians to assess cardiovascular health more thoroughly than traditional methods. Both procedures are non-invasive and can identify problems before they become emergencies. "We want to stay at the forefront of medical technology to ensure patients receive the best possible care," NTMC CEO Tom Sledge said. Hospital officials said the imaging capability can be "the difference-maker in preventing heart attacks and improving long-term outcomes" by catching early signs of coronary artery disease during routine screening rather than after a cardiac event. The equipment is housed in the H. Mack and Barbara Barnhart Family Cardiac CT Room at the medical center. The naming reflects continued philanthropic investment in NTMC's facilities and technology by community supporters. Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States, and rural communities often face gaps in access to advanced cardiac diagnostics. The investment positions NTMC to serve patients across Cooke County and the surrounding region who might otherwise need to travel to Dallas-Fort Worth or Denton for comparable imaging.
