North Texas Medical Center in Gainesville is a nonprofit acute care hospital serving Cooke County and surrounding communities 24 hours a day.

GAINESVILLE, Texas — When a health crisis strikes in Cooke County, North Texas Medical Center is the destination most residents rely on. Located at 1900 Hospital Blvd. in Gainesville, NTMC is the area’s full-service acute care hospital — a nonprofit facility owned by the Gainesville Hospital District and operated by Community Hospital Corporation. It has served this community for more than 40 years.

The 120,720-square-foot medical center sits just west of Interstate 35 on West Highway 82, making it accessible from across Gainesville and from communities throughout the region. NTMC’s service area stretches across Cooke, eastern Montague, western Grayson, and northern Denton counties in Texas, as well as southern Love County, Oklahoma.

Emergency Care Around the Clock

The emergency department at NTMC is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is staffed by board-certified emergency physicians at all times. The department holds a Level IV Trauma Center designation and is certified as a Level III Stroke Facility.

The ER includes 11 treatment areas with dedicated rooms for cardiac, trauma, and women’s services. Private registration spaces and a family waiting area are also available. The direct line to the emergency department is (940) 612-8150.

For situations that are urgent but not life-threatening, residents also have options closer to home. The Cooke County Record has a guide to urgent care clinics in Gainesville for lower-acuity needs.

Services and Specialties

Beyond the emergency department, NTMC offers a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services. The hospital has 42 medical/surgical beds, a 6-bed intensive care unit, and a 12-bed women’s center with a dedicated C-section operating suite.

Surgical services are supported by four operating rooms and two procedure rooms. Medical imaging capabilities include CT scanning — including cardiac computed tomography angiography (CCTA) — MRI, mammography, ultrasound, and nuclear imaging.

Additional services at NTMC include:

  • Orthopedics and sports medicine
  • Physical, occupational, and speech therapy
  • Cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation
  • Laboratory services
  • Wound care (with three dedicated treatment areas)
  • Sleep studies
  • Home health
  • Hospital at Home (inpatient-level care at home for qualifying patients)

Accreditation and Quality

NTMC holds accreditation from the Center for Improvement in Healthcare Quality (CIHQ) and carries CIHQ’s Center of Excellence in Nursing Services designation. The hospital has also received a CMS 5-Star Rating for acute care hospitals, a federal quality measure.

A Community Anchor

NTMC is Cooke County’s largest healthcare employer and one of the region’s most significant economic institutions. The hospital operates the NTMC Foundation, which supports community health initiatives and assists patients with unmet needs.

Gainesville Hospital District, the local taxing authority, owns the facility — meaning NTMC is ultimately accountable to the residents it serves. That local governance structure distinguishes it from investor-owned or large health system hospitals.

Contact and Access

North Texas Medical Center is located at 1900 Hospital Blvd., Gainesville, TX 76240. The main line is (940) 665-1751. The hospital is open 24/7, and a patient portal is available through the NTMC website at ntmconline.net.

From downtown Gainesville, take West Highway 82 heading west from I-35 — the hospital campus will be on your right.
