GAINESVILLE, Texas — North Central Texas College has announced the selection of two faculty members to serve as Texas Community College Teachers Association Faculty Fellows for the 2025-2026 academic year.
Dr. Shalini Vij, a chemistry professor, and Crystal Hall, who teaches anatomy and physiology, were chosen for the competitive program designed to develop leadership skills among early-career community college educators.
The TCCTA Faculty Fellows program targets faculty members with five years or less of teaching experience, providing them with opportunities to network with peers, attend conferences, participate in legislative briefings, and engage in statewide discussions about higher education challenges.
"TCCTA is the singular most effective representative group for community college faculty," said NCTC Chancellor Dr. Brent Wallace.
Both professors were nominated by their division and department chairs based on demonstrated leadership potential. As fellows, Vij and Hall will have their expenses paid to attend the Virtual Fall Faculty Conference on October 11, 2025, and the general convention scheduled for February 18-20, 2026, in Frisco.
The fellowship program emphasizes developing strategies for addressing academic challenges while building professional relationships across Texas community colleges. According to Astonida Draper, a previous fellow, the experience was "enlightening" and helped her form "lasting relationships" while learning "instructional tips and best practices."
The selection recognizes NCTC's commitment to investing in faculty development and ensuring educators have access to professional growth opportunities that ultimately benefit students.
