GAINESVILLE, Texas — Darrell Smith, Dean of Industrial Technology for Career and Technical Education at North Central Texas College, has been named a national award winner by the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps. Smith advanced through multiple levels of competition — including his unit, the North Texas region and the Northwest and South Central area — before earning the national recognition. He competed against cadets from across the United States and several U.S. territories. "Everything he does, all the time, is above average," a representative of the North Texas unit said. "Darrell is one of the most genuine and hardworking individuals we know, and we're proud to have him on our team." Smith will travel to Norfolk, Virginia in June to accept the award at a formal ceremony. In addition to his role at NCTC, Smith serves as a Lieutenant Junior Grade in the Naval Sea Cadet Corps, a federally chartered youth naval organization operating under the Department of the Navy.
