GAINESVILLE, Texas — The Texas Department of Transportation will close sections of I-35 and California Street in Gainesville for construction work over three consecutive nights beginning Sunday.
Closures will begin at 8 p.m. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday evenings, with roads reopening at 6 a.m. each morning.
Southbound I-35 traffic will be rerouted to exit at California Street (FM-51) and bypass the work zone south of FM-1306 before rejoining the highway.
Drivers on California Street will not be able to pass under I-35 during the closures. TxDOT advises those motorists to turn onto the access road, make a U-turn when possible and rejoin California Street from there.
The overnight schedule is designed to minimize disruption to daytime traffic. Drivers should plan for additional travel time during the evening hours and watch for signage directing them through the detour routes.
