GAINESVILLE, Texas — Twenty-two groups presented funding requests to the Gainesville City Council from the city's Hotel Occupancy Tax fund for Fiscal Year 2026-27, while three commercial building permits issued along the I-35 corridor point to continued development.
The city projects approximately $1,035,000 in hotel and motel tax revenue for the coming year. By law, HOT funds can only be used for purposes that bring overnight visitors to Gainesville. The requests were presented at a recent council meeting where each group made its case for funding.
The revenue is collected from lodging at local bed and breakfasts, short-term rentals, and hotels.
