Unofficial May 2 results: Lewis, Hill, Scruggs lead council races; Clegg leads GISD

Voters in three Gainesville City Council wards and one Gainesville ISD school board seat decided contested races Saturday. Results remain unofficial until canvassed.

GAINESVILLE, Texas — Voters in three Gainesville City Council wards and one Gainesville ISD school board seat decided contested races Saturday, May 2. Unofficial results published by the Gainesville Daily Register show Linda Lewis leading Ward 1, Michael Nelson Hill leading Ward 3, Lynette Scruggs leading Ward 5, and Pamela Clegg leading the school board's Place 1 race.

Results remain unofficial until canvassed.

Gainesville City Council

Ward 1

  • Linda Lewis: 27
  • Aaron Smith: 23

Ward 3

  • Michael Nelson Hill: 114
  • Randy Jones: 70

Ward 5

  • Lynette Scruggs: 114
  • Martin Phillips: 87

Gainesville ISD School Board

Place 1

  • Pamela Clegg: 304
  • Henry Koehler: 232

What happens next

Under the Texas Election Code, election results must be canvassed by the relevant governing body before they become official. Local canvassing typically occurs within eight to eleven days of election day. The Gainesville City Council and Gainesville ISD will release certified totals after their respective canvass meetings, after which winners take their oaths of office.
