GAINESVILLE, Texas — The Cooke County Clerk's Office is the county's main stop for marriage licenses, deeds, vital records and several other records residents ask for most often.
Pam Harrison serves as county clerk. The office is at the Cooke County Courthouse, 101 South Dixon, Room 108 in Gainesville, and the county page lists the main number as 940-668-5474. Hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:50 p.m., and the office stays open through lunch.
What the County Clerk handles
The Clerk's office handles marriage licenses, property deeds, birth and death certificates, assumed-name filings, livestock brands and online records searches. The county page also points residents to Property Fraud Alert, a free service that can notify property owners when documents with their name are recorded.
Online searches and records access
Cooke County links residents to online criminal and civil records searches and to a real-property and land-records search. The office also offers online ordering for vital records and marriage-certified copies.
The county page says the office will help residents use those systems, but staff do not perform personal or title searches for the public. Residents need to do their own searches using the county's online tools.
When to call another office
If the record involves district court civil, family law or felony cases, the District Clerk is the right office instead. If you need sheriff reports, arrest records or jail-related information, that request belongs with the Cooke County Sheriff's Office.
For many residents, the County Clerk is still the first stop for everyday records involving marriage, property or vital records. If the office does not hold the document you need, it can usually point you to the right place.
