GAINESVILLE, Texas — Cooke County is now under a burn ban after commissioners took action Monday to address dry conditions across the region.
The ban prohibits outdoor burning in unincorporated areas of the county. Violations of burn bans in Texas can result in fines and potential liability for damages caused by fires that spread.
Commissioner Adam Arendt reminded residents about safety precautions that remain in effect during the ban.
"Welders needing 100 gallons of water on-site" was among the precautions Arendt noted, indicating that welding operations can continue if proper safety measures are in place.
Burn bans are common across Texas during periods of low humidity and drought conditions. The restrictions help prevent wildfires that can quickly spread and threaten homes, livestock, and natural resources.
Residents with questions about what activities are permitted under the ban should contact Cooke County or visit the county website for complete details.
The duration of the ban will depend on weather conditions and rainfall. Commissioners typically review burn bans at their regular meetings and lift restrictions when conditions improve.
