Students throughout Cooke County are beginning preparations for the 2026 Cooke County Junior Livestock Show, scheduled for January 10-11, 2026, at the Cooke County Fairgrounds and Gainesville ISD facilities.
The annual event supports 4-H, FFA, and FCCLA youth from across the county, providing opportunities to showcase project work, receive recognition, and develop leadership and teamwork skills. The nonprofit organization serves students from Callisburg, Era, Gainesville, Lindsay, Muenster, and Valley View school districts.
Cooke County 4-H participants include students from public schools, St. Mary's Catholic School, Sacred Heart Catholic School, and homeschooled students. The show has become a cornerstone event for agricultural education in the region.
Competition categories include livestock divisions for cattle, swine, sheep, goats, and poultry, along with equine competitions, shop projects, and Family and Consumer Science (FCS) exhibits. The rabbit show will be held at the newly designated Gainesville ISD Ag Barn location, which offers heated facilities for winter weather.
Entry deadlines and validation requirements are being finalized for the 2026 show, with validation typically required for market animals. The show organization is accepting add-on money donations through January 31, 2026, allowing community members to support multiple exhibitors.
The event traditionally draws hundreds of participants and generates significant community involvement through volunteer efforts and local business sponsorships. Premium sales allow students to earn money for their projects while buyers support youth agricultural education.
The Cooke County Junior Livestock Show receives funding through the Cooke County United Way, entry fees, donations, and sponsorships. The organization operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on positive youth development through agricultural projects.
Planning committees are already meeting to coordinate the 2026 event, reviewing rules, updating procedures, and organizing volunteer assignments. The show represents months of preparation by students, teachers, extension agents, and community volunteers.
