Gainesville ISD to weigh Phase 2 bond pricing, Edison mold work

GAINESVILLE, Texas — Gainesville ISD trustees will weigh pricing for the next phase of the district's 2025 bond program and a package of Edison Elementary repairs when they meet Monday, Sept. 21, at 5 p.m. The board's posted agenda lists 14 action items, led by approval of Phase 2 guaranteed maximum pricing (GMP) with BTC Construction. Director of Maintenance and Operations Joe Warren presents that item, along with five other facility requests. Four of those requests focus on Edison Elementary, which the district has been repairing since mold was found in classrooms. Trustees will consider the Apex Flooring Services quote to replace classroom flooring, the Terrell Painting and Wallcovering quote for mold remediation build-back and paint in 39 classrooms, and the Farmer Environmental Group invoice for indoor air quality and asbestos consulting tied to the remediation and abatement work. The board also will vote on the McDaniel HVAC quote to replace a 30-ton rooftop unit at the junior high physical education gym. Several items would set district policy for the school year. Trustees are asked to approve the 2026-2027 District Improvement Plan, the 2026-2027 Student Code of Conduct and the Student Handbook. Other action items include a Texas Incentive Allotment handbook and spending plan, an addendum to the district's contracted services with ESC Region 11, a special education services memorandum with Region 9 ESC, a resolution recognizing Oct. 14 as Texas Education Human Resources Day, and a change to an authorized representative for First State Bank. The board will also take up the annual certification of compliance with Texas Education Code 39.008 under Senate Bill 12. Residents can speak on that certification during public testimony, with five minutes allowed per speaker. Consent items cover minutes from the Aug. 17 regular meeting and the Aug. 3 budget workshop, the monthly bill list, the financial statement and budget amendments. Trustees also will approve construction payments: BTC Construction payment application No. 4 for the Edison and Chalmers additions and renovations and the intermediate addition, and Weil Construction payment application No. 14 for the library renovation. The evening opens with recognitions: community partner donations, Leopard Pride Students of the Month, Employee of the Month April Scott of Gainesville Junior High, Elementary Teacher of the Month Amy Williams of Chalmers and Secondary Teacher of the Month Brooke Jamieson of Gainesville Junior High. Superintendent Des Stewart will report on enrollment and attendance, the Red River Collaborative school board training set for Oct. 16 in Saint Jo, and Bond Oversight Committee meetings. Trustees will also hear a bond projects update from Warren and preliminary A-F accountability results from Dana Dudenhoeffer before going into executive session on personnel matters, including the hiring of professional personnel.
