GAINESVILLE, Texas — The Gainesville Chamber of Commerce has announced "Journey to the North Pole" as the theme for the 91st Annual Christmas Parade, inviting local organizations, businesses and schools to participate in the holiday tradition.
The parade will wind through Historic Downtown Gainesville, bringing festive floats, music and community spirit to the streets. Entries must incorporate lighting as the parade takes place after dark, creating a magical atmosphere for spectators.
Local businesses, schools, churches and civic organizations are encouraged to enter floats and displays that interpret the North Pole theme. Past parades have featured creative entries ranging from elaborate light displays to marching bands and dance groups.
As tradition dictates, Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will appear at the end of the parade on their sleigh to light the community Christmas tree. No other entries may feature Santa to preserve the magic of his grand finale appearance.
The chamber will award prizes for outstanding entries, including the prestigious Mayor's Cup for the best overall entry. Additional categories recognize creativity, execution and adherence to the theme.
Parade organizers remind participants that all entries must be lighted and ready to travel the downtown route at a safe, steady pace. Technical specifications and route information are available from the chamber office.
The Christmas parade has been a cornerstone of Gainesville's holiday season since the 1930s, drawing thousands of spectators from across Cooke County and beyond. The event kicks off the community's holiday celebrations and downtown shopping season.
Families traditionally stake out viewing spots along the parade route hours in advance, bringing blankets and lawn chairs to secure prime locations. Local businesses often offer extended hours and special promotions on parade night.
Entry forms and additional information are available from the Gainesville Chamber of Commerce. Organizations interested in participating should contact the chamber office at (940) 665-2831 or visit the chamber's website.
The parade date and specific time will be announced in the coming weeks. Spectators are encouraged to arrive early and dress warmly for the outdoor event.
